The Giant Thug was an unidentified and impressive enforcer working for American gangster and human trafficker Darren Bettencourt. He is a supporting antagonist in the 2002 film The Transporter, the first installment of the Transporter franchise.

Biography[]

The Giant Thug first meets the driving mercenary Frank Martin at a coffee shop with other henchmen to set up preparations for the delivery of a package to Darren Bettencourt, although he seems suspicious of the former military man from this meeting. He then places the parcel in Frank's BMW, the latter discovering afterwards that it is Lai Kwai. However, once Frank delivers the package, Bettencourt attempts to have him killed with a bomb, possibly due to Giant Thug's suspicions.

A few days later, the enforcer is one of many henchmen sent by Bettencourt to confront Frank at a bus station as the gangster flees with his boss, Mr. Kwai, as well as Lai to receive containers containing nearly 400 people. The Giant Thug tries to use his imposing physique to his advantage to beat Frank but the transporter gets the upper hand when he covers himself in oil to beat the many henchmen. When armed men join the fight, Frank uses the Giant as a human shield against the barrage of gunfire, killing him, and dives with his body into water, using the oxygen in his body to hold below the surface of the water when the henchmen set fire.

Trivia[]

  • The Giant Thug was portrayed by French actor Jean-Marie Paris.
  • Because of his imposing physique, he may have influenced Max in Transporter 2 and Big One in Transporter 3. However, while the other two really roughed up Frank during their fight, the Giant Thug was only slightly harder for the carrier to beat than the other goons.
